Isha Yoga Centre, London – Glimpses of Its First Year
It had been the heartfelt desire of Isha meditators and volunteers in Europe to have a physical presence that can act as a hub of inner transformation. One volunteer recalls the logistics involved in conducting Inner Engineering programmes until we opened the centre: from shifting all the materials in vans and lifting them across several floors, cooking the programme food in a separate building and moving it to the venue couple of streets away or pleading with the venue watchman to give them more time as they rushed to wind up the programme late on a Sunday night! Ragas for Peace
To mark the International Day of Peace, a special event, “Ragas for Peace”, was organised at the centre – being the first in a series of ‘Isha Cultural Evenings’. Here to share their rapturous music were Kaviraj Singh on Santoor, Upneet Singh on Tabla and their father, the celebrated Sitar player Dharambir Singh.
In preparation for the evening the centre was adorned with colourful flowers and shimmering lights, composing a magical ambience. The audience quickly settled themselves around the musicians, cross legged and noticeably still. Read More

Butterflies at Isha Yoga Centre
The first Isha Yoga Centre in Europe, established in London, celebrated this Guru Pournima in a very special way. In the build up to the celebrations, the centre welcomed a batch of freshly hatched caterpillar larvae. This was highly metaphorical as their journey from a cocooned state to fully grown butterflies symbolizes the metamorphosis a seeker undergoes on the spiritual path. There are many similarities between their transformation, and our own. To help understand this significance, Sadhguru tells a beautiful story about a caterpillar that wanted to experience a dimension of existence beyond survival. He captures its growth beautifully with the following words: “Once the transformation had taken place, it is impossible for the butterfly to return to being a worm.” Read More

Volunteering

All programmes and events within Isha are volunteer run. It takes tremendous levels of effort to make these happen, and they're only possible as a direct result of volunteers' love and dedication. As the number of programmes and events offered at the Isha Yoga Centre in London is growing, so too does the need for the continuous support from volunteers both to run Isha’s inspirational programmes and to maintain the centre as a joyful and energised space. If you wish to volunteer, please fill in this survey or get in touch with us on volunteers.uk@ishafoundation.org. We hope you will take advantage of this wonderful growth opportunity.

We have been able to establish the centre after more than 10 years of continuous efforts thanks to the goodwill and support of Isha meditators. It is now poised to lead the efforts in offering the powerful tools of yoga to raise human consciousness across Europe. You can support this endeavour by donating towards the running costs of the centre. Your donation can be on a monthly basis, or as a one-off contribution. No matter how big or small the contribution is, every penny will go a long way in helping the centre to thrive and expand. If you are UK taxpayer, your donation is tax free and eligible for Gift Aid.
